Most solid samples in XRF are prepared as pellets. The particle size effects determine the accuracy achieved. If this is not sufficient, the sample must be dissolved with the aid of fusion.           

The fusion creates an ideal homogeneous sample without particle size effects and with a defined density. In addition, homogeneity and a perfect surface lead to a significantly smaller calibration error
